What is a permanent resident (PR)?

Permanent resident(PR) status is the right for foreign nationals to live permanently in Japan without any restrictions on their period of stay.

This right corresponds to the residence status of "Permanent Resident (PR)".

Below are the benefits of PR.

There are strict standards set by the Immigration Bureau in order to obtain permission for PR applications.

Requirements

The requirements for a PR application actually differ depending on the visa (status of residence) of the applicant.

Prerequisites for obtaining permanent resident status.

There are no problems with the applicant's past history.

In other words, "there is no violation of laws or ordinances" and "there is no delay or nonpayment of public payments such as taxes." This includes not only crimes but also administrative penalties such as traffic violations.

Have sufficient income to live independently.

In order to obtain PR, the applicant is required to have had sufficient income for a certain period of time in the past.

Living in Japan for a long period of time.

In principle, the applicant is required to have continuously resided in Japan for 10 years or more. However, the required period of residence varies depending on the applicant's visa type, and it may be possible to obtain PR for less than 10 years.

Duration of the visa you currently have.

In order to obtain PR, the applicant's current visa period (the number of years written on the residence card) must be 3 years or more.

Have not left Japan for a long period of time.

If an applicant leaves Japan for more than three months in a year, it will not be recognized as continuous residence and the application may be rejected.

Required number of years of residence for each type of visa.

⑴From work visa.

More than 10 years *Over 5 years on a work visa within the last 10 years.

⑵ From spouse visa/child visa

For spouse visa, more than 3 years of marriage and living in Japan for more than 1 year.
For children, More than 1 year.

⑶Long-term resident visa

More than 5 years since obtaining the current visa.

⑷Highly skilled professional visa.

*If the applicant has a working visa and meets the point requirements, it is possible to apply in a shorter period of time based on the above criteria even if the applicant does not have a highly skilled professional visa.

Procedure flow

STEP01

After talking to our lawyer, the client decides whether to request a procedure from our office and which fee plan to apply for.

STEP02

Clients are required to prepare the necessary documents themselves by referring to the "List of Required Documents" that we send to clients. We will send a return envelope to the client's home, which they can use to send the documents to us.
Additionally, the client enters the necessary information in the "Hearing Form" sent by our company.

STEP03

Our lawyer creates legal documents based on the documents and information provided by our clients. We ask our clients to review the completed document and make corrections if necessary to perfect it.

STEP04

Our lawyer will apply at the Immigration Bureau. Our clients do not have to go to the Immigration Bureau.

5. Sending the necessary documents

6. Fill in the hearing sheet

After we receive the photo of the required documents, the person in charge at our office will send a "hearing sheet" by e-mail / LINE, so please enter the necessary items.

7. Preparation and sending of application form

We will create an application form based on the documents you have prepared and the information you have entered into the "Hearing Tool." The completed application form will be mailed to your home.

8. Sign and return the application form

When you receive your completed application form, please review it carefully to ensure that there are no errors. Then, if there are no errors, please sign the application form.

9. Visa application

Our lawyer will goes to the Tokyo Immigration Bureau (Shinagawa) for the application. The client will not go to immigration because we will also receive the result of the application at the Immigration Bureau on behalf of the client.
